Your writing, your choice

Privacy.

Your journal and saved ideas are private from other app users. Community submissions are a separate, deliberate choice.

Your account.

Evergreen uses an email address and password to create your account and sign you in through Google Firebase Authentication. Firebase handles your login information. Evergreen does not save your password on your device.

Evergreen keeps your account identifier, email address, email-verification status and sign-in session so it can connect you to your own saved writing. On the mobile app, the sign-in session is stored using the device's protected credential storage. In a browser, it is stored in the tab's session storage. Sign out when using a shared device.

Private writing.

Your journal reflections, gratitude entries, captured quotes and thoughts, favorites, reading history, daily selection and entry-deletion markers are stored on your device and synced to your account in Firebase Cloud Firestore when a connection is available. This lets you return to saved writing and use it across your devices. Sync can fail or be delayed; check the status in Settings before relying on another device's copy.

Your private writing is not published to the community. Saving a journal entry does not submit it for review. Your journal and complete saved garden are not automatically sent to the community AI review workflow.

“Private” means other app users cannot browse your account's journal. It does not mean end-to-end encryption. The local writing store is not separately encrypted by Evergreen, and authorized service administrators and Google/Firebase can access server-stored data to operate the service. Your device's own security and who can unlock it also matter.

Older writing from before accounts may remain separately on the device. Evergreen asks before bringing that writing into an account. Signing in does not automatically associate it with the new account.

What you choose to share.

While signed in, you choose or write a single Quote or Thought and confirm that you want to submit it for community review. An author, source and source link are optional, and email verification is not required to submit. The submission includes that text, its kind, any credit or source details you provide, your consent, a submission identifier, a date and a status. It is associated with your account so you can find or withdraw it.

Only that submission is sent to the review queue. Your journal, other saved ideas and complete writing history are not attached. Review access is separate from ordinary app-user access.

You can submit, see your submission status and withdraw a submission. Chosen submission text, source details and associated identifiers may be processed by OpenAI through Codex in a local nightly review workflow. Review can screen unsuitable material, check sources and propose a polished thought, gist or reflection question. Local review packets and notes may contain copies of that chosen submission. We do not guarantee when a submission will be reviewed or published.

Submissions enter review before any public use. Approved ideas may be added to Evergreen's curated daily library. Public community browsing and voting are not available.

Withdraw marks a submission as withdrawn; it does not immediately erase the stored record. For removal of the record or local review copies, contact Evergreen or delete your account and contact us about any separate review copies. Any future public use of an idea needs a separate permission and attribution check.

If you share an idea with a friend, Evergreen prepares only the selected text and its available credit. It does not attach your private journal or source website links. Your device lets you choose where the message goes, and those services handle the shared copy under their own practices.

Optional support.

All Evergreen features remain free. The current iPhone release offers optional one-time Apple tips of US$2, US$5 or US$10; monthly and yearly support subscriptions are not currently offered. Apple displays the available localized price and currency before you confirm and handles billing using your Apple Account. Evergreen does not collect your card number or banking details, and no payment form appears on this website. Apple handles purchase information under its App Store privacy practices.

The app reads Apple's product prices and purchase results on your device to verify and finish purchases, show support status and recover interrupted checkout. A local record can keep the selected product, an attempt identifier, prior transaction identifiers and whether support completed. This support state is separate from your journal, is not included in writing exports or garden backups, and is not uploaded to Evergreen's Firebase account database by the current app.

Signing out or deleting your Evergreen account does not remove an unresolved support attempt or Apple's purchase records. If you already set up an Apple support subscription during earlier testing, manage or cancel it through Apple in iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Evergreen; deleting your Evergreen account does not cancel it. See the support terms and Apple's cancellation instructions.

Service providers.

Evergreen uses Google Firebase Authentication for sign-in and Cloud Firestore for account storage, submissions and the curated idea library. Google/Firebase processes this information on Evergreen's behalf. Authentication also uses network information, including IP addresses and user-agent details, for security and abuse prevention. See Firebase's privacy and security information.

Google describes Authentication IP logs as retained for a few weeks and other Authentication information as removed from live and backup systems within 180 days after the associated user's deletion. That provider retention is separate from removing the app's live account data.

OpenAI, through Codex, may process chosen community submissions and review notes in the local nightly workflow described above. Private journals are not included in that workflow. OpenAI handles this processing under the applicable service terms and OpenAI privacy policy.

These information pages are hosted by Vercel. When you open a page, the hosting service receives request information such as your IP address, browser details and the requested URL to deliver the page and help keep the service secure. Hosting logs are separate from your journal and account storage. See Vercel’s privacy notice.

The app has no advertising or analytics tracking integration. Everyday app preferences, such as tour completion, activity counts for support reminders and reminder settings, are kept locally. This information site has no account form, payment form, advertising scripts or analytics scripts.

If you contact Evergreen by email, your email address and message are received through Gmail so we can respond. Please do not send passwords, payment details or private journal entries. Following an external source link opens that website, which has its own privacy practices.

Keeping your writing.

Saved writing has no automatic age-based expiry in the app. We keep live account writing while the account exists, unless you remove it. Community submission records remain until removed; withdrawal changes their status.

Storage is finite. The current cloud copy has a limit of 700,000 bytes for the combined saved account data, with up to 5,000 items in each collection of entries or identifiers and a length limit for individual text fields. Device storage is limited too. Reaching a cloud limit prevents that sync; it does not intentionally erase a successful device save. There is no promise of unlimited storage or indefinite availability.

Signing out of an active account ends its sign-in session but does not erase its saved device copy. Device-only legacy writing and optional app preferences can also remain. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data can remove local writing. Automatic phone backups should not be relied on to recover it. Keep an export somewhere you control, especially before replacing a device.

Export & deletion.

You can export saved journal entries and captured ideas as CSV or readable text, or make a JSON backup of the saved garden. These files contain your writing in plain text. Share them only with people and services you choose, and store them somewhere private. Copies you export, send to another app or save outside Evergreen are under your control and are not removed by account deletion.

Use Settings → Delete my account to remove the account's live cloud journal, saved ideas and community submission records, then its Firebase login. The app also removes that account's local writing, sync copy and pending submission from the device completing deletion. If cleanup is interrupted, the app prevents further use of that deleted account and offers a retry. Deletion is not complete while a retry or cleanup error remains.

A minimal account-status record containing the account identifier, a deleted flag, a version and a timestamp remains on the server to prevent old sessions from reopening the deleted account. It contains no journal text or email address and currently has no automatic expiry.

Deleting an account does not remove separate older device-only writing, global app preferences, exported files or copies on another offline device. An offline device can retain its previous cache until it reconnects and completes cleanup, or you remove its app data. Deleting the app alone does not delete the cloud account.

You can also request account deletion by email. We may need to confirm that the account belongs to you. Requests are handled by a person; sending an email does not instantly delete the account. If an idea is already present in a separately curated public library, contact us about that item as well; account deletion cannot remove other people's copies or independently sourced material.
